I have 39 yrs of nursing experience! I spent ½ of my nursing career proudly serving with the United States Air Force Nurse Corps. While active duty and after retiring I’ve worked in a variety of setting including Med-Surg, Critical Care, Staff Development and Managed Care. I’ve spent the last 8 yrs working with the New Mexico VA Health Care System. For 4 of those years I had the prevalige of working with Veteran’s returning from Iraq and Afghanistan as the OEF/OIF RN Case Manager. I’m currently working as a Care Coordinator in the Home Telehealth Department. After receiving my CCM Certification in 2010 I joined CMSA. Being a member of CMSA and our local Rio Grande Chapter has been a rewarding experience for me. I have the opportunity to work with dedicated board members whose goal is to educate others on Case Management and provide quality education for RN and SW Case Managers!
Michael Klein RN, CCM
Michael was born in Albuquerque, NM. He has always possessed a kind heart and loving spirit. As a child Michael had his fair share of illness and hospitalizations. Throughout all of this he discovered his passion for caring for others and developed a drive to become a nurse. Michael attended Albuquerque Public Schools Career Enrichment Center, Practical Nursing program, thus graduating from high school as a LPN. Following LPN school Michael worked at UNMH inpatient as well as outpatient.
After several years at UNM, Michael transitioned over to PHS where he has performed several different roles, including Occupational Medicine. 5 years after working at PHS, Michael decided to return to CNM (TVI at the time) and obtain his ASN. After completing his RN he worked 3 years in the NICU, and then returned to Occupational Medicine as a clinic Lead. Michael was clinic lead for 2 years, and then went as needed to stay home and care for his 2 young children. Michael returned to full time work in 2015 as a Short Term Disability Case Manager for PHS, thus sparking his interest to become a CCM. Michael got certified in Case Management in 2016. At that time he decided it was time for a change, and switched positions to a Transition of Care Nurse Case Manager within the PA team at Fluent/Presbyterian Health Plan. This is where Michael feels most at home and can truly utilize the skills he has worked diligently to obtain.
Michael is new to the Board, and is happy to take on the role of Treasurer for the NM Rio Grande Chapter of CMSA. He looks forward to serving on the board and assisting his fellow board members.
